Dutch-Ghanaian full-back Jeremie Frimpong clears path for Liverpool talks as Leverkusen negotiations advance
Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong has reportedly moved closer to joining Liverpool, providing the Merseyside club’s negotiators with a significant boost.
Talks between Liverpool and Frimpong’s representatives have progressed well, with the 22-year-old open to the prospect of a summer switch to Anfield.
Frimpong, who was born in the Netherlands to Ghanaian parents, has emerged as a prime target for the Reds as they seek to reinforce their right flank following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s expected departure.
The Dutch international’s attacking style and defensive versatility make him an ideal fit for Arne Slot’s high-intensity system, and his connection to Liverpool’s Dutch contingent, including Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and Ryan Gravenberch, is said to have positively influenced his decision.
According to The Mirror, Liverpool have already discussed Frimpong’s release clause with Bayer Leverkusen, which reportedly falls within the €35-40 million range.
While no final agreement has been reached, the English side is believed to be pushing for a structured payment plan to secure the player’s services without significantly disrupting their summer budget.
Liverpool are said to have tabled a five-year contract for Frimpong, and both parties are now working to finalise the finer details of the deal.
If the move goes through, it would mark another major addition to Slot’s rebuilding project as Liverpool aim to re-establish themselves.
