Mohamed Ramadan believes Marcel Koller’s departure from Al Ahly was timely, despite the coach’s impressive trophy haul.
The club’s former sporting director claims Koller lost the dressing room, and his efforts to mend relations came too late.
Ramadan noted that while Koller delivered silverware and even outshone legendary coach Manuel Jose in terms of titles, his on-field performances lacked spark. “His exit is best for the team with major tournaments ahead,” he said.
He shared that he had begun identifying new coaching candidates months ago, though he’s unsure how things progressed after his exit. Ramadan also clarified that he stepped down because he was restricted to sporting director duties and didn’t want to assume the broader football director role.
Ramadan had envisioned a full youth project, including match and training pitches, accommodations, and medical facilities—ideally part of Al Ahly’s new Sheikh Zayed complex.
On Imam Ashour’s punishment, Ramadan confirmed it followed a clash with captain Mohamed El-Shenawy. He dismissed rumors about Omar Kamal’s alleged altercation, insisting discipline applied to all players, regardless of status.
