Al Ahly’s Moroccan defender Achraf Dari picked up a hamstring injury during Wednesday’s clash with Petrojet in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League’s crowning stage, held at the Military College Stadium in Cairo.
Dari was forced off in the 44th minute after sustaining the injury, prompting a substitution just before halftime, with Yasser Ibrahim stepping in to replace him.
The 25-year-old is set to undergo medical tests to determine the extent of the injury and how long he will be sidelined.
Al Ahly started strong, taking an early lead with goals from Wissam Abu Ali and Amr El-Soulia in the 10th and 15th minutes, respectively.
However, Petrojet responded with two goals just before the break — a penalty converted by Rashad El-Metwally in the 45th minute and a stoppage-time equaliser from Emmanuel Laki in the 45+5th.
But Nejc Gradišar scored the winner for Ahly in the 63rd minute.
The match also marked the debut of interim head coach Emad El-Nahhas, who recently replaced Swiss manager Marcel Koller following Al Ahly’s failure to defend their CAF Champions League title.
