Olympique de Marseille eye Algerian international Ramy Bensebaïni ahead of summer transfer window

Olympique de Marseille are reportedly targeting Algerian international Ramy Bensebaïni for a potential summer transfer, as the club looks to strengthen its squad for the upcoming season.

The versatile left-back, currently plying his trade with Borussia Dortmund, has caught the attention of the French club, who are keen to reinforce their defense. According to sources from the specialized X account La Minute OM, Marseille has been monitoring the 30-year-old Bensebaïni’s progress throughout the season.

The Algerian’s impressive form in the Bundesliga has made him an attractive option for the Ligue 1 side, who are eager to bolster their ranks for a competitive push next season.

Bensebaïni, under contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 2027, has enjoyed a productive campaign, featuring in around 40 matches for the German side.

His contributions have not been limited to defense; he has also played a pivotal role in Dortmund’s attack, with 3 goals and 6 assists to his name.

These performances have placed him on the radar of several top European clubs, and Marseille could look to capitalize on his current market value of approximately €7 million, as estimated by Transfermarkt.

While there has been no formal contact between the two clubs at this point, Marseille’s interest in Bensebaïni is clear. His experience, coupled with his familiarity with Ligue 1, makes him a potential asset for the club.

Bensebaïni’s previous stints at Montpellier (2015-2016) and Stade Rennais (2016-2019) not only gave him valuable top-flight experience but also saw him win the French Cup with Rennes in his final season in Brittany. This gives him a strong understanding of the league, which could be beneficial to Marseille as they aim for European qualification next season.

Bensebaïni’s versatility as a left-back, capable of contributing both offensively and defensively, would provide Marseille with much-needed depth in the defensive department.

His ability to operate across the backline and in midfield makes him a flexible option for manager Igor Tudor, who is expected to make key adjustments to his squad during the summer window.

If the move to Marseille materializes, Bensebaïni would join a growing Algerian contingent at the club. The 30-year-old would link up with fellow Algerian internationals Amine Gouiri and Ismaël Bennacer, who joined the club earlier this year.

These signings could mark the beginning of a strong Algerian presence at Marseille, following the club’s history of recruiting players from the North African nation.

Bensebaïni would also become the ninth Algerian player to represent Marseille in the club’s history. Previous Algerian signings at the club include Ali Bouafia in 1987, Djamel Belmadi in 1997, Brahim Hemdani in 2001, Salim M’Hamed Arrache and Karim Ziani in 2007, and Foued Kadir in 2013. A potential move for Bensebaïni would further cement the club’s long-standing relationship with Algerian talent.

With just a few months remaining until the transfer window opens, Marseille’s pursuit of Bensebaïni adds another layer of intrigue to their summer plans. As the club continues to chase European football next season, the arrival of the experienced left-back could provide the defensive stability they need to make a push for the top spots in Ligue 1 and beyond.
