French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille will be forced to permanently sign England forward of African descent, Jonathan Rowe, at the end of the season.

According to information gathered, the French club’s option to buy in the deal they negotiated with Norwich to sign the 21-year-old forward on loan until the end of the season is mandatory.

As a result, Marseille will be forced to pay €16m for the England youth international.

Jonathan Rowe struggled for playing time on his arrival, but has always worked hard.

The English winger has only started 5 matches for the Ligue 1 club since Roberto De Zerbi. Despite only starting 5 matches, the youngster has impressed in the 577 minutes that have been afforded to him, scoring 3 goals and registering 2 assists.

Last Saturday, Jonathan Rowe climbed off the bench to score for Marseille in the team’s 4-1 win against Montpellier in the French Ligue 1.

Speaking in a post-match interview, the youngster admitted that he has embraced the difficulties he has faced at the club.

“It’s been difficult for me personally, this whole season it’s been a big change coming from Norwich where I was a key player in the team and coming here it was a big challenge with the expectation to perform.

“I’ve embraced it, but it’s been difficult. I wasn’t in the starting XI a lot of times and it affected me a bit. I think everyone could see that, but I carried on – and that was that main thing,” Rowe said.
