Marcel Koller could not hide his disappointment after Al Ahly’s African Champions League dreams ended on Friday.
The Red Devils were knocked out in the semi-finals by Sundowns, drawing 1-1 both away and at Cairo Stadium. Despite a strong fight, the away goal rule sealed their fate.
The Swiss coach, according to Kooora, was struck by bottles thrown from angry Al Ahly fans as he left the pitch. He shared his sadness with a club official, clearly hurt by the reaction he faced after the final whistle.
Koller said to the official: “I know and appreciate the sadness of the fans, but I never imagined this.”
It was a bitter end to a campaign full of hope. Al Ahly’s loyal supporters, known for their passion, showed their frustration in a way Koller did not expect.
Now, all eyes turn to an important meeting where Koller’s future will be decided. He is set to meet either club president Mahmoud Al Khatib or treasurer Khaled Murtaghi in the coming days to discuss the next steps.
The road ahead for Koller and Al Ahly remains uncertain.
