Three key players from top Algerian clubs have been handed suspensions after being caught making obscene gestures during last weekend’s league matches.
The disciplinary committee confirmed sanctions against CS Belouizdad captain Abdel Raouf Ben Ghaith, Shabiba Kabylia’s Kassila Boualia, and Mohamed Boumshra of Khenchela Union following incidents in the 23rd round.
Each of the three players received a six-match suspension, with half of the ban suspended, and were fined around $400. The punishments come just days before a highly anticipated showdown between CS Belouizdad and Shabiba Kabylia in round 24, now without two of their biggest names.
Ben Ghaith and Boualia’s absence from the second vs third battle could shift momentum in the title race as both teams look to close the gap at the top.
Off the pitch, disciplinary actions continued as Ahmed Bonzo, Club Paradou’s general secretary, and Mohamed Jabbar, general manager of Shabiba Essaoura, were each banned for one match due to misconduct.
