Former France and Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is set to make his mixed martial arts debut at the age of 43.
The Professional Fighters League (PFL) announced on Friday that Evra will compete in a showcase bout at PFL Europe Paris on May 23, 2025, at the Accor Arena.
Born in Senegal and raised in France, Evra has been training in combat sports since 2016 alongside his friend and PFL star Cédric Doumbé.
While his opponent has yet to be announced, Evra has humorously suggested former Uruguayan footballer Luis Suárez as a potential rival, referencing their infamous history during a 2011 match between Manchester United and Liverpool.
Evra expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming fight, stating, “You guys should know by now, I love this game too! I’ve performed on the world’s biggest stages, won every major trophy in football, but PFL Europe Paris will be an incredibly special night for me.”
He added, “I’ve been training alongside the best in the world for years, and they’ll also tell you I’m ready for this.”
PFL CEO Pete Murray shared his excitement about Evra’s debut, saying, “We’re incredibly excited to have the superstar that is Patrice Evra fight under the PFL banner, as we’re all about exciting match-ups and making history.”
The PFL Europe Paris event will also feature high-profile matchups, including Mansour Barnaoui vs.
Archie Colgan in a lightweight bout, and Taylor Lapilus’ PFL debut against Ali Taleb. Belgian fighters Patrick Habirora and Nicolas Di Franco are also set to compete.
