Pressure is mounting on Swiss coach Marcel Koller after Al Ahly crashed out of the CAF Champions League semi-finals, sparking fan outrage and club tension.
During Friday’s match at Cairo Stadium, fans threw bottles and shouted angrily at the Swiss coach following a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns. The South African side advanced thanks to the goalless first leg in Pretoria, ending Al Ahly’s title hopes and marking their first absence from the final since 2019.
The disappointing result triggered chaos in the stands and unrest at the top. A source told Kooora that club president Mahmoud Al-Khatib is seriously weighing Koller’s dismissal. A meeting involving Al-Khatib, the planning committee, and sporting director Mohamed Ramadan will soon take place to decide the coach’s fate.
Koller, who took charge in September 2022 after Ricardo Soares’ departure, would be owed two months’ salary if let go.
Al Ahly’s next game will be in the Egyptian Premier League against Petrojet on April 30th.
