Pyramids FC skipper Ahmed El Shenawy has downplayed the challenge of facing either Al Ahly or Mamelodi Sundowns in a potential African Champions League final, insisting both teams bring similar threats.
The Egyptian shot-stopper believes Pyramids are well-prepared but must remain cautious ahead of the second leg of their semi-final clash against Orlando Pirates on Friday.
After a goalless first-leg stalemate in South Africa, the Cairo-based side is looking to capitalize at home. However, El Shenawy warned against a reckless approach. “Pyramids have experienced players, and they will face a strong opponent, so we shouldn’t open the lines and play an attacking game,” he said.
The former Zamalek goalkeeper is chasing continental glory with Pyramids, a dream he missed out on in the past. “I hope to win the African Champions League title with Pyramids after losing the opportunity to win the title with Zamalek before despite reaching the final,” he added.
Reflecting on potential opponents, he stated: “Both sides are experienced, and it won’t be any different between them, as the opposition will be strong in any case.”
