Al-Ahly gears up for battle over Sports Law changes
Al-Ahly is ready to take a stand against proposed changes to Egypt’s Sports Law, with the club’s leadership weighing a bold move to challenge the amendments on an international stage.
The Egyptian football giant is frustrated, believing the new rules could tilt the playing field unfairly against them. The amendments, soon headed to the House of Representatives, have sparked concern at the club’s Cairo headquarters, prompting a plan to escalate the issue globally.
“Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of Al-Ahly Club, has tasked the legal department with preparing a comprehensive file on the subject and studying it thoroughly in preparation for sending it to the International Olympic Committee,” a club insider told Kooora.
“Al-Ahly had previously requested the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports to send a copy of the proposed amendments for study and opinion, but the ministry refused to respond to this request.
“Al-Ahly believes that the new amendments oblige popular and popular clubs to adhere to certain matters that may negatively impact their competitiveness, and thus the absence of the principle of equal opportunities compared to private clubs that are not subject to this law.”
