Arsenal overly dependent on Bukayo Saka – Maitland-Niles
Former Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles has expressed concern that his previous club is placing excessive reliance on winger Bukayo Saka.
Saka, who has Nigerian heritage, has been a pivotal figure for the Gunners this season.
Despite a three-month absence due to a hamstring injury, he has made 27 appearances across all competitions, contributing 10 goals and 14 assists.
Maitland-Niles, now with Olympique Lyon, commented on Saka’s role at Arsenal, stating that the club expects too much from the 23-year-old.
“I think they now rely on him a bit too much and you can’t expect so much from such a young player.
“He hasn’t even hit his prime yet. But I think he is the driving force of the team and they miss a bit of attacking threat when he is not playing.
“Bukayo has become one of the world’s best wingers, very consistent, knows how to kill off a game and he can pick his moment in a genius way.”
Saka’s recent return from injury has been a significant boost for Arsenal.
He made an immediate impact by scoring in a 2-1 victory over Fulham and played a crucial role in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid.
Saka’s performance in these matches has been instrumental in revitalizing Arsenal’s attacking dynamics.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged Saka’s importance to the team, emphasizing the need to manage his workload carefully to prevent future injuries.
The Gunners are currently navigating a demanding schedule, with aspirations in both the Premier League and Champions League, with many players out injured.
