Sydney FC add Nigerian forward Oriola Sunday on loan from RB Omiya

Nigerian striker Oriola Sunday has joined Sydney FC from Japan’s RB Omiya on loan, bringing a new centre-forward option to the A-League Men club.

The 23-year-old completed the move on 16 August 2026, with the loan agreement running until 30 June 2027. Sunday will return to RB Omiya when the arrangement expires.

Sunday arrives in Australia after spending the past two seasons with RB Omiya. He joined the Japanese club from Tokushima Vortis in July 2024 and was part of the Omiya side that won the Japanese third tier in the 2023-24 campaign.

The forward began his senior career with F’Chiyama Seibi, joining the club from IBS Dreams FC in 2019. He moved to Tokushima Vortis in February 2022 before spending the 2023-24 season on loan at Vanraure Hachinohe. His switch to RB Omiya followed the end of that loan spell.

Sunday is a right-footed centre-forward and stands 1.78m tall. He has been registered with Sydney FC for the 2026-27 A-League Men season, with the club becoming his first destination outside Japan.

His most recent competitive record comes from the J2 League, although he had not made an appearance in the opening two possible league matches of the 2026-27 campaign before moving to Sydney. The transfer gives him the opportunity to continue his career in Australia while remaining contracted to RB Omiya.

Sunday’s move is a loan transfer, with no permanent fee specified. His listed market value is €450,000, while his highest recorded market value is €500,000.

The forward’s arrival adds to the international profile of Sydney FC’s squad and marks the latest stage of a career that has taken him through several Japanese clubs since his first move into senior football.

Sunday is now a Sydney FC player on loan from RB Omiya until 30 June 2027.
