I am angry at some players - Wydad coach Rulani Mokwena after Throne Cup elimination

Wydad Casablanca head coach Rulani Mokwena has made a big admission after his side’s surprise elimination in the Throne Cup on Saturday evening.

Wydad will finish the season without silverware after losing 1-0 to relegation-threatened Moghreb Tetouan in the round of 16 last Saturday at the Saniat Rmel Stadium.

As revealed by AfricaSoccer.com, the derby against Raja Casablanca will play a big role in Mokwena’s future, as the team fight to secure the final CAF Champions League spot.

After the game, the South African stated that something needs to change, even if it means changing the coach.

“Either we change the mentality, or we change the players… or we change the coach,” Mokwena, a former Mamelodi Sundowns and Champions League winner, said after the game, as per Pan African Football.

“I told them: the score is still goalless, but if we don’t make the difference, our opponents will. And that’s what happened. We had the statistics, the analysis, the keys… but we still have to have the desire to win.”

“Some players disappointed me tonight. They weren’t at the level expected to represent this club. I’m very angry,” he added.

Rulani Mokwena joined Wydad as head coach on a three-year deal in June 2024.
