‘Choosing to join AC Milan instrumental in my career development’ – French-Congolese
Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu has attributed his career advancement to his decision to join AC Milan, highlighting the move as a significant turning point.
Kalulu, now in his seventh year in Serie A, discussed his choice during an appearance on the club’s podcast.
In 2020, the French defender of Congolese descent transitioned from Olympique Lyonnais to AC Milan, seeking an environment that would foster his development.
He explained, “I thought about the club where I could develop the most, and I picked Milan.
“It was not an easy choice. I could not return home and could make no mistakes. I left my comfort zone and it was good for me.”
During his tenure with the Rossoneri, Kalulu established himself as a versatile defender, capable of playing both center-back and right-back positions.
He made 112 competitive appearances, contributing three goals and three assists. His performances were instrumental in AC Milan’s 2021-2022 Serie A championship victory.
However, the 2023-2024 season presented challenges for Kalulu, as injuries limited him to just 11 appearances across all competitions.
This period saw him lose his starting position, leading to his loan move to Juventus in August 2024. The deal included an option for a permanent transfer, with Juventus paying a loan fee of €3.3 million.
At Juventus, Kalulu has regained his form, delivering standout performances and solidifying his role as a key defender.
