Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd faces fresh injury setback

Nayef Aguerd to miss Real Sociedad's clash with Real Mallorca due to ongoing knee injury

Nayef Aguerd has suffered another injury setback while playing for Real Sociedad, adding to a season plagued by fitness concerns.

The Moroccan international, who has struggled with multiple injuries in recent months, was forced off the pitch during his side’s Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Real Madrid.

Brief Comeback Ends in Frustration

Aguerd, who missed several games earlier in the season due to a thigh strain sustained against Leganés in February, had returned to the starting lineup on Tuesday.

His absence in that period saw him miss a crucial fixture against Barcelona but did not prevent him from joining Morocco for international duty in March.

Despite returning to action against Real Madrid, his comeback was short-lived. The 29-year-old defender lasted only 27 minutes before being substituted due to discomfort, with initial assessments suggesting a knee injury. If confirmed, this latest setback could put his season in jeopardy.

Injury Woes Continue

This latest blow comes after Aguerd had already raised concerns in December with a minor injury scare, although he managed to recover quickly at that time.

However, the recurring nature of his fitness issues has become a growing concern for both club and country.

So far this season, the former Stade Rennais centre-back has made 35 appearances, including 33 starts, as he sought to rebuild his form following a challenging spell at West Ham United.

The 1.90m defender is currently on loan at Real Sociedad from the Premier League side, with his future beyond this campaign yet to be determined.

If the knee injury proves serious, Aguerd’s hopes of a strong finish to the season could be in doubt, adding further frustration to an already difficult period in his career.
