In a thrilling Group D clash on Tuesday evening, Cameroon secured a 3-1 win against Libya at the Stade Omnisport de Douala in Douala.
The Indomitable Lions roared into action early, with Vincent Aboubakar converting a penalty in the 27th minute to break the deadlock. Bryan Mbeumo added the second goal in the 53rd minute. Mbeumo’s goal was assisted by Carlos Baleba.
Cameroon continued to put pressure on Libya which led to the Indomitable Lions securing their third goal in the 61st minute through Vincent Aboubakar. Aboubakar’s strike was assisted by Bryan Mbeumo.
Libya fought back and got a consolation goal in the 90+1 minute through Al Hilal Benghazi striker Ezzeddine A Mariami. Despite Libya’s spirited effort, Cameroon’s attacking prowess proved decisive in this crucial qualifier.
Current Group D standings see Cape Verde leading with 13 points, followed by Cameroon with 12 points after this win, Libya with 8, Angola with 7, Mauritius with 5, and Eswatini with 2.
Cameroon’s next challenge is a home clash against Eswatini on September 1, 2025, while Libya will face Angola away on the same date, both sides eager to keep their World Cup dreams alive.
