Ahmed Hossam “Mido,” a key figure on Zamalek’s planning committee, didn’t hold back when he said he would have loved to see Al-Ahly show up at Cairo International Stadium for the summit match only to lose.
The Egyptian Premier League’s big clash was set to kick off with Zamalek facing their fierce rivals, but Al-Ahly pulled out, unhappy with the decision to use an Egyptian refereeing team.
“I wish Al Ahly had come to Cairo Stadium and played the summit match, because if they had played the match, they would have lost,” Mido said in statements on Zamalek TV.
“We did not request the appointment of an Egyptian refereeing crew for the summit match, but the Football Association informed us that Zamalek only wants fair refereeing,” he added.
Mido emphasized the planning committee’s role under club president Hussein Labib, pushing for a foreign technical director with top credentials to boost the youth setup. “As a planning committee, we demand our rights, and we will fight to preserve the rights and interests of Zamalek,” he insisted. With Hazem Emam by their side, Mido stressed their mission is simple to serve Zamalek, not control it.
