Cameroonian international Joyskim Dawa has expressed his ambition to return to the national team as he prepares to face Olympique Lyonnais with FCSB in the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday.
The 28-year-old defender, who has nine caps for Cameroon, last featured for the Indomitable Lions in September 2021.
Dawa revealed that earning a recall under new coach Marc Brys remains one of his primary objectives.
“Of course, a return to the national team is one of my goals this year. I am focused on what I can control, I am focused on my performances at the club.
I am at the disposal of Mr. Brys and the national team. If he calls on me, I will be more motivated than ever in any case,” Dawa said.
Dawa recently crossed paths with compatriot André Onana when FCSB faced Manchester United in the Europa League on January 30.
Reflecting on the encounter, he spoke highly of his friendship with the Cameroonian goalkeeper.
“André Onana is a great friend, we played each other in the Europa League recently, we talked a lot about football and our respective lives.
He gives me a lot of advice and gives me a lot of support. I hope to share the national team pitches with him again,” he added.
Dawa also looked back on his participation at the 2019 AFCON, describing the tournament as the highlight of his international career so far.
“The 2019 AFCON is the best memory I have with the Indomitable Lions. Representing your country in a competition of such magnitude is an incredible pride.
I am ready to relive a major competition with the Lions and give my all.”
With Dawa’s consistent performances for FCSB, the defender remains hopeful that his club form will pave the way for a return to the national team fold.
