Djamel Mesbah, assistant coach of the Algeria A’ national team, was in Thiès, Senegal, to observe the CHAN 2024 qualifier between Gambia and Gabon, which ended in a goalless draw.
The scouting mission is part of Algeria’s preparations for the second round of CHAN 2024 qualification, with head coach Madjid Bougherra and his staff working to ensure the team is fully prepared for the crucial fixtures ahead.
Algeria’s preparation plans
As previously reported by AfricaFootUnited, Bougherra has scheduled a training camp in Annaba from March 17 to 25.
This gathering will serve as a key preparation phase, with the team expected to play two friendly matches against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
These games will allow the coach to assess his squad and fine-tune tactical approaches ahead of the decisive two-legged encounter in May.
Algeria’s opponent for the next stage will be determined by the outcome of the Gambia-Gabon tie.
To gain a better understanding of both teams, Mesbah closely analyzed their performances in the first leg, focusing on their tactical strengths and weaknesses.
Gabon in a strong position
The return leg is set to take place in Franceville on Saturday, where Gabon will have the advantage of playing at home.
Following the 0-0 draw in the first leg, the Panthers appear to be in a favorable position to advance, but Gambia will be determined to challenge for qualification.
Algeria, eager to secure a place at CHAN 2024, will continue monitoring their potential opponents closely before finalizing preparations for their own crucial fixtures.
