TP Mazembe have been ordered by FIFA to pay $36,000 to former Ivorian goalkeeper Boris Mandjui following a contractual dispute.
The ruling by world football’s governing body requires the Congolese club to settle the payment within 45 days, comprising $6,000 in unpaid wages and $30,000 in compensation for breach of contract.
Legal Defeat for TP Mazembe
The Lubumbashi-based club has suffered another legal setback, adding to its ongoing disputes with former players. Mandjui, who joined TP Mazembe from Ghanaian club SC Medeama in 2023 on a two-year deal, never featured for the team due to a conflict between the club’s management and his agent.
The club eventually terminated his contract unilaterally, prompting the player to seek FIFA’s intervention.
Consequences of Non-Payment
FIFA has warned that failure to meet the payment deadline will result in significant sanctions. TP Mazembe could face a transfer ban, both domestically and internationally, while the club’s current suspension on registering new foreign players — set to expire in June 2025 — could be extended until 2026.
Mandjui’s Career in Limbo
The dispute has left Mandjui’s career in limbo, with the goalkeeper unable to make his mark at the Congolese giants.
His next move remains uncertain as he seeks to revive his career following the protracted legal battle.
TP Mazembe now faces mounting pressure to comply with the ruling to avoid further repercussions that could hinder the club’s future recruitment plans.
