The relationship between Valentine Nkwain and Samuel Eto’o has deteriorated, with the Victor United owner making scathing remarks against the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) president in a leaked audio recording.
Once allies, the two men are now embroiled in a public feud marked by allegations of betrayal, corruption, and power struggles. Nkwain, a prominent businessman, was instrumental in supporting Eto’o’s successful campaign to become Fecafoot president and saw his club Victoria United rise rapidly in Cameroonian football under his influence.
Tensions Unveiled
The fallout began with leaked audio recordings suggesting possible match-fixing, followed by Fecafoot’s decision to impose a lengthy suspension on Nkwain.
Feeling abandoned, Nkwain retaliated by releasing an audio message in which he openly criticised Eto’o and claimed to wield significant influence over the former Barcelona striker.
“I had given instructions that Best Stars (of Limbé) no longer exists, eh? He came to our house and got down on his knees, eh?” Nkwain declared, implying that Eto’o had once sought his help.
Arrogant Claims
Nkwain’s comments were laced with arrogance, portraying himself as a powerful figure capable of bending others to his will.
“Well, if I were someone who was full of balls, I would see you as cockroaches, people who don’t exist. But that’s not my nature,” he added, presenting himself as a man feared even by Eto’o.
Humiliating Allegations
The most striking remark came when Nkwain sought to belittle Eto’o’s stature.
“Because when I tell you that President Eto’o comes, when he is in front of me, that’s how Eto’o does it. Maybe you don’t understand.
He’s your idol oh! But when he is in front of me, he is like that (he mimes ‘very small’ with his fingers). That is to say, he has a respect… And you are lucky to be with the same person…”
The statement has sparked controversy, with Nkwain suggesting that Eto’o is submissive in his presence despite his legendary football career.
Escalating Feud
The public fallout marks a significant escalation in their strained relationship. Nkwain’s decision to air his grievances in such a provocative manner has further exposed the internal power struggles within Cameroonian football.
As the scandal unfolds, all eyes are now on Eto’o to see whether he will respond to the latest provocation or maintain silence amid the storm.
