Mustapha Sangaré has declared his intention to represent Mali at the international level, despite being eligible to play for both Senegal and France.
The 26-year-old striker, who recently joined Bulgarian club Levski Sofia, revealed his national team preference in an interview with Africasport24.
Clear Choice
“My mother is Senegalese and my father is Malian. I have both nationalities and I was born in France.
Since I have professional status, I have these discussions with my friends and family, but I have more this desire to play with Mali,” Sangaré stated.
His comments leave no doubt about his ambition to wear the colours of the Eagles.
Impressive Form
Sangaré signed for Levski Sofia from Varzim on July 9 and has quickly established himself in his new team.
The forward has made 25 appearances, scoring six goals and providing six assists in all competitions.
His consistent performances could put him on the radar of Mali’s head coach, Tom Saintfiet, as the national team looks to bolster its attacking options.
Should the call come, Sangaré would welcome the opportunity to represent Mali at the highest level.
