Former South Africa defender Lovers Mohlala is currently into mining and agriculture for survival following his retirement from football.
Mohlala, who capped nine times for the Bafana Bafana retired from active football two decades ago at age 30.
The former left-back had stints with several clubs including Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Moroka Swallows.
The 48-year-old, known for his wonderful football extracts from strikers during his playing days encountered several challenges after retirement. He struggled to carter for his family due to lack of job opportunities.
However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns had to venture into mining in his native country to make money for ends meet.
Explaining why he ventured into mining, Mohlala said, “I cannot sit at home and do nothing. Now I am working for my children and family, I am the stockpile manager and a friend of mine hooked me up with the mine boss, who is also a friend. Unfortunately, I cannot disclose the name of the mine and other details”
Aside mining, the former South African defender, who was part of the historical generation of the Mamelodi Sun Downs team between 1998 and 2001 is also into agriculture.
“A man must be busy and not be idling. I am also selling livestock in Brits and meat in Brakpan. My family (wife and kids) are in the East Rand while I am mostly based in North-West province” he said.
