A month after the close of the 2025 winter transfer window, several Cameroonian players who made moves in search of playing time are settling into their new clubs with varying degrees of success.
While some have already begun to make their mark, others are still struggling to adapt.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting – A fresh start in MLS
After parting ways with Bayern Munich, veteran striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting opted for a new adventure in Major League Soccer (MLS), joining New York Red Bulls.
The 35-year-old made his debut against FC Cincinnati, playing the full 90 minutes in what was a promising start to his American journey.
While he has yet to register his first goal for the club, the experienced forward is expected to play a key role in breaking down opposition defenses.
Valued at €1.8 million, Choupo-Moting will be looking to prove that his move to the United States was the right decision.
Jean Onana – Struggling to find his feet at Genoa
Jean Onana’s move to Genoa in January was meant to revive his career after a difficult spell at Beşiktaş.
However, the 25-year-old midfielder has yet to establish himself in Italy.
Since arriving on loan, he has made just two appearances, with his latest outing being an 18-minute cameo in a 1-0 defeat to Juventus.
Still contracted to Beşiktaş until 2027 and valued at €3 million, Onana will need to work hard to earn more minutes and prove his worth in Serie A.
Régis Mughe – Seeking his breakthrough in Greece
Régis Mughe, who moved on loan to Athens Kallithea from Olympique de Marseille, is still searching for his first goal in Greece.
The 20-year-old striker has featured in four matches but has yet to make a decisive impact.
In his most recent appearance against OFI, he was substituted after 62 minutes, indicating that he is still adjusting to his new environment.
Under contract with Marseille until 2028 and valued at €1 million, Mughe must quickly find his rhythm to turn his loan spell into a success.
Ignatius Ganago – Adapting to life in MLS
Ignatius Ganago followed in Choupo-Moting’s footsteps by moving to the MLS, joining New England Revolution on loan from FC Nantes.
Like his compatriot, he has only featured in one match so far, playing the full 90 minutes against Nashville SC.
Though he has yet to score, the 24-year-old striker has shown signs of adapting well to his new surroundings.
If he continues to settle in, he could play a crucial role in New England’s attacking setup.
Didier Lamkel Zé – A bright start at Sint-Truiden
Among the five Cameroonian players who moved in January, Didier Lamkel Zé has arguably made the most immediate impact.
After joining Belgian side Sint-Truiden on a six-month deal, the 27-year-old forward has already found the net three times in seven appearances.
This adds to his overall tally for the season, which now stands at six goals and three assists, including his contributions for Turkish club Fatih Karagümrük before his transfer.
Valued at €1 million, Lamkel Zé has quickly become an important figure for his new club.
Mixed fortunes for Cameroonian transfers
A month into their respective moves, Cameroonian players are experiencing mixed fortunes in their new clubs.
While Lamkel Zé has hit the ground running, Choupo-Moting and Ganago are still finding their rhythm in MLS.
Meanwhile, Onana and Mughe have struggled for regular game time and will need to step up if they hope to turn their seasons around.
With several months left in the campaign, these players still have time to make an impact and prove their worth in their new environments.
