AS Saint-Étienne has turned down an approach from Egyptian giants Al Ahly for Ghanaian midfielder Augustine Boakye, reaffirming their commitment to keeping the player as a key part of their squad.

Boakye, 24, remains focused on his development in European football and has no intention of leaving Ligue 1 at this stage of his career.

Having joined Saint-Étienne from Austrian side Wolfsberger AC last summer, the midfielder endured a challenging start due to injuries but has recently begun to showcase his potential.

His standout performance in a 3-1 victory over Stade de Reims, where he scored twice, earned him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week for matchday 16.

According to Ghanasoccernet, Boakye’s resurgence has caught the attention of Al Ahly, who were eager to bring him in as a reinforcement ahead of the Club World Cup.

The Egyptian club, known for attracting some of the continent’s top talents, saw the Ghanaian as a valuable addition to their midfield. However, their efforts to secure his services were firmly rejected by Saint-Étienne.

Despite the opportunity to join one of Africa’s most prestigious clubs, Boakye has made it clear that his priority is to establish himself in Europe.

He remains determined to contribute to Saint-Étienne’s campaign and continue his growth in Ligue 1.

Saint-Étienne, currently battling to improve their position in the league, are reluctant to part ways with key players.

With Boakye scoring three goals in 16 appearances this season, the club sees him as an important asset in their push for stability and progress.

As the transfer window progresses, Saint-Étienne’s stance signals their intent to hold onto their core squad members, with Boakye playing a pivotal role in their plans for the remainder of the season.
