Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has opened up about his relationship with Cameroon FA President, Samuel Eto’o.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star reportedly influenced Onana’s omission from the 2022 World Cup squad, forcing his early retirement from international football.

Prior to the 2023 AFCON, Onana was convinced to return to the national team by the Cameroonian government.

At the tournament, the Manchester United shot stopper was benched in favor of a third-division goalkeeper, further humiliating his comeback.

In response to the purported break in relationship with Eto’o, Onana said, “To be honest, a lot has happened, but it’s all behind us now.”

“For me, nothing matters more than my nation’s triumph. First is Cameroon. Regardless of our personal opinions, we are willing to sacrifice everything for the identity this nation has given us. I work as a goalie. He was a striker. It’s mine now; he had his. Everything has an end, and football is a generational sport” he said.

Despite these struggles, Onana remains focused on his career and his ambitions:

“I want to be the best of the best. I want to win everything! But football is a collective sport, not tennis. To be the best goalkeeper in the world, you need a strong team and trophies.”
