World football governing body, FIFA, has imposed an immediate suspension on the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) due to governance concerns.
The decision follows the election of a management body that does not align with FIFA regulations.
As a result, DR Congo’s national teams, clubs, and officials are barred from participating in all international competitions—including CHAN, AFCON, CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and the World Cup—until the suspension is lifted.
FIFA’s Official Statement
FIFA cited “undue interference by third parties” in FECOFOOT’s affairs as the primary reason for the suspension, calling it a serious violation of its statutes. The decision was made in collaboration with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after joint FIFA-CAF missions to Brazzaville.
To have the suspension lifted, FECOFOOT must meet the following conditions:
- Regain full control of its headquarters, the Ignie Technical Centre, and other facilities.
- Prevent unauthorized changes to FECOFOOT’s bank account signatories and restore control to those recognized by FIFA and CAF.
- Nullify any decisions that allowed an ad hoc committee to exert authority over FECOFOOT.
- Ensure the federation can operate independently, free from external interference.
Until these conditions are met, DR Congo remains sidelined from all FIFA-sanctioned events.
