Al Ahly open negotiations to terminate contract of Morocco defender Ashraf Dari amid Wydad interest

Al Ahly have opened negotiations with defender Ashraf Dari over the possibility of terminating his contract by mutual consent after the Moroccan fell outside new head coach Hussein Ammouta’s plans.

The Egyptian giants are currently holding their pre-season training camp in Spain as they continue preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

Al Ahly are scheduled to play two friendly matches during the camp, facing Badalona on August 12 before taking on Spanish giants Barcelona on August 19.

According to Moroccan newspaper Al-Mountakhab, the club has begun direct discussions with Dari regarding the early termination of his contract, which is currently scheduled to run until the summer of 2028.

Dari’s exclusion from the squad for the training camp is understood to have accelerated discussions over his future, with the defender now facing the prospect of leaving the Cairo-based club.

The Moroccan defender is also reportedly attracting interest from his former club Wydad Casablanca, with negotiations between the two parties said to be progressing positively.

The report added that both Dari and Wydad are keen to reach an agreement, as the Moroccan giants look to reinforce their defensive options ahead of their upcoming domestic and continental commitments.

A return to Wydad would represent a reunion for Dari, who previously established himself at the Casablanca club before moving to Europe.

Dari joined Al Ahly in 2024 from French side Brest, but his time in Egypt has been disrupted by a series of muscle injuries that limited his availability and prevented him from establishing himself as a regular member of the team.

In an effort to secure more playing time, Dari spent the second half of last season on loan at Swedish club Kalmar, where he remained for six months before returning to Al Ahly following the completion of his temporary spell.

However, with Ammouta now in charge and Dari seemingly outside the coach’s plans, the defender could be on his way out of the club this summer.

Should negotiations over the termination of his Al Ahly contract reach a successful conclusion, Wydad could emerge as the Moroccan international’s next destination as the club seeks to strengthen its defence ahead of the new season and upcoming continental competitions.
