Plateau United Managing Director Habila Hosea Mutla has expressed confidence that the club will overcome its current difficulties in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
“Life is full of challenges, with its ups and downs,” Mutla told Completesports.com.
“The key is to learn and rise from it. For us at Plateau United, I am confident that we will come through.
We are determined to finish among the top teams at the end of the season.”
The club is currently 16th in the NPFL table with 24 points from 22 matches, a position that management believes does not reflect its true potential.
Efforts have been made to strengthen the squad, and Mutla remains optimistic that recent reinforcements will turn the season around.
January Reinforcements to Spark Revival
Plateau United were active in the mid-season transfer window, bringing in several new signings to bolster the squad.
According to Completesports.com, the club secured the services of Ekene Olisema Nero from Sporting Lagos, Mojereola Sulaimon from El-Kanemi Warriors, Abdulmutallif Sanusi from Katsina United, and Dabo Joshua from Yobe Desert Stars.
“Yes, we have strengthened the squad with new players in the January transfer window,” Mutla confirmed. “We hope that these new signings will bring the necessary spark to the team.”
Coach Given Three-Match Ultimatum
With the team’s struggles continuing, the club has placed a three-match ultimatum on head coach Mbwas Mangut and his technical staff.
However, Mutla insists that the decision is not intended as a punishment but rather as a means to push for better performances.
“This decision is not punitive or a witch hunt,” he explained. “It is aimed at improving the performance of our team in line with our objectives for the season and to justify the state government’s investment in the team.
It is not about sacking anyone, far from it. We all want the best and we will do whatever it takes to achieve success for the club, the government, and the people of Plateau State.”
Mangut’s future now hinges on the team’s results in their next three matches—a visit to Niger Tornadoes this weekend, a crucial home fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors, and a challenging away game against in-form Ikorodu City.
The outcome of these games will likely determine the club’s direction for the remainder of the campaign.
