Bayer Leverkusen have denied claims that Victor Boniface was close to joining Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, stating that no formal offer was ever submitted.
Reports had suggested the Nigerian striker had completed medical tests ahead of a potential €60-70 million transfer.
However, Al Nassr ultimately turned their attention to signing Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead.
“He is still a Bayer player. There have been talks, which is why he didn’t train, to avoid any distractions before the big game,” said Leverkusen sporting managing director Simon Rolfes after their 2-0 Champions League win over Sparta Prague.
Rolfes emphasized that the club never received a written offer from Al Nassr.
We haven’t received an offer that would make us decide to let him go.
He is an important player from a sporting point of view,” he stated.
Despite ongoing speculation, Rolfes expects Boniface to remain with the Bundesliga side. “I assume he will stay.
The likelihood of that is very high.
Boniface remains under contract with Leverkusen until 2028.
