Atletico de Madrid target Azzedine Ounahi in potential €25m transfer

Atletico de Madrid have identified Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi as a transfer target, with the Spanish club attracted by his ability to retain possession under pressure and drive his team forward.

Ounahi’s technical profile is considered a strong match for the demands of LaLiga and for the needs of Atletico de Madrid’s midfield. His ability to restart attacks and dictate the direction of play has particularly impressed the Madrid club as they assess ways to strengthen the centre of the pitch.

A transfer could also provide financial benefit for Olympique de Marseille. The French club may be entitled to a 30% sell-on clause as part of the proposed transaction.

If the move is completed for €25m, Olympique de Marseille would receive €7.5m under the terms of that clause. The arrangement means the French side could benefit significantly from Ounahi’s next transfer, despite the deal being dependent on an agreement being reached.

The midfielder’s performances have helped maintain his profile at international level and in LaLiga. During the 2025-26 season, Ounahi scored five goals and made two assists in 24 LaLiga appearances for Girona FC.

His influence was also evident at the 2026 World Cup, where the Morocco international scored twice against Canada. That performance played an important part in helping his team reach the quarter-finals.

Atletico de Madrid are understood to value the qualities Ounahi offers in possession. His composure when opponents apply pressure, combined with his ability to move the ball into attacking areas, fits the style of midfielder the club is seeking.

The proposed move would therefore represent a significant step in Ounahi’s career, while also giving Olympique de Marseille the possibility of a sizeable return through the sell-on clause. The potential €25m fee would generate €7.5m for the French club if the transfer is finalised on those terms.

Ounahi’s technical ability to control the ball, progress play and influence the tempo of matches has made him an appealing option for Atletico de Madrid. His record of five goals and two assists in 24 LaLiga matches for Girona FC during the 2025-26 campaign, together with his contribution to Morocco’s run at the 2026 World Cup, has strengthened the attention surrounding his future.

At this stage, the transfer remains a proposed deal rather than a completed move. However, Atletico de Madrid’s interest is founded on a clear assessment of Ounahi’s strengths: secure possession in difficult situations, forward movement with the ball, and the passing range required to organise attacks from midfield.
