Atalanta secured a 2-1 victory against Como in Serie A on Saturday, with Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman playing a pivotal role. The win marks a crucial three points for Atalanta as they continue their campaign in Italy’s top flight.
Lookman, who has been in fine form this season, made his 19th appearance for the club, adding another strong performance to his tally.
The Super Eagles star has already netted 10 goals and provided five assists in the league, showcasing his impact on Atalanta’s attacking play.
The match, played at the Gewiss Stadium, began with a moment of controversy. Como took the lead in the 30th minute when Nico Paz found the back of the net from 14 yards.
The home crowd erupted in celebration, but their joy was tempered momentarily as the goal was initially flagged offside due to Fadera’s positioning.
However, after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, and the goal was confirmed as legitimate.
Atalanta responded strongly to the setback, and in the second half, Mateo Retegui proved to be the difference.
The Argentine striker netted two crucial goals to turn the match in Atalanta’s favor. Retegui’s brace helped the visitors complete the comeback, securing all three points on the road.
Lookman, though not directly involved in the goals, was influential throughout the match.
His work rate and pace caused problems for the Como defense, and he earned his third yellow card of the season after a foul on a Como player in the first half.
Speaking after the match, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini praised his team’s resilience.
“It wasn’t easy to recover from an early goal, but the players showed great character. Mateo was fantastic, but everyone contributed to the win,” he said.
Como’s manager, on the other hand, expressed disappointment with the result but was pleased with his team’s overall performance.
“We played well and deserved more from the match, but in the end, Atalanta showed their quality,” he noted.
With this win, Atalanta continues to push for a strong finish in Serie A, while Como will be left to reflect on their narrow defeat.
