Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly expressed relief after finding the net in FC Metz’s commanding 3-0 victory over Grenoble on Friday in Ligue 2.

The goal ended a frustrating 11-match run without scoring for the Senegalese forward, providing a much-needed boost for both him and his team.

Dominant Performance from Metz

The win at Stade Saint-Symphorien on January 25 showcased Metz’s strong credentials for promotion to Ligue 1.

In a match that marked the 20th round of the Ligue 2 season, Stéphane Le Mignan’s side displayed their superiority.

The scoring was opened by Pape Amadou Diallo in the 42nd minute, and Sabaly doubled the lead early in the second half, with the final goal sealing a decisive victory for the Grenats.

A Crucial Goal for Sabaly

For Sabaly, who had endured a difficult spell without scoring, the goal marked a significant turning point in his season.

Speaking to Le Républicain Lorrain, the 25-year-old reflected on the challenges he faced during his goal drought.

“It was difficult. I went through a tough period, but it’s something that happens in football.

I didn’t give up—I kept working hard. Today, the credit goes to the whole team for helping me score,” said the former Génération Foot striker.

The goal brought his tally for the season to nine and reinvigorated his confidence for the second half of the campaign.

Looking Ahead with Determination

Sabaly, who recently became a full Senegalese international, acknowledged the impact of coach Stéphane Le Mignan’s unwavering support during his challenging period.

“The coach encouraged and motivated me, and I know everyone is behind me,” he said.

When asked about Le Mignan’s belief that he could reach 20 goals this season, Sabaly remained focused yet humble.

“The goal is to score as many as possible, but my priority is always the team. I’ll give it my all,” he added.

A Fresh Start for Metz’s Star Forward

Sabaly’s return to scoring form comes at a crucial time for FC Metz as they push for direct promotion to Ligue 1.

With the backing of his teammates and coaching staff, Sabaly’s performance against Grenoble could serve as the spark for an even more productive second half of the season.
