West Ham United striker Michail Antonio has been discharged from the hospital, more than three weeks after suffering a broken leg in a car accident on December 7.
The 34-year-old Jamaica international, who has an academy in Ghana and visited the country in November, underwent surgery for a lower limb fracture following the incident in Epping, Essex.
West Ham United expressed their gratitude to the emergency and medical services that supported the striker during his recovery.
The club also announced that they would be donating close to £60,000 to the NHS and Air Ambulances UK charities, proceeds from the sale of ‘Antonio 9’ shirts auctioned off in a show of solidarity before their match against Wolves on December 9.
Earlier, West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui had described Antonio’s survival as a “miracle.”
The club and fans will be relieved to see the striker on the road to recovery, although it remains uncertain when he will be able to return to the pitch.
Antonio is West Ham’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League, with 68 goals in 268 league appearances. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the team as they navigate the remainder of the season.
