The Federation of Zambia Football Association (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga has assured that the Chipolopolo will get quality preparations before the start of the 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament.
Chipolopolo qualified for the CHAN to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania after the withdrawal of Mozambique which granted them an automatic qualification.
Kamanga in a statement released revealed that Zambia have started preparations for the tournament insisting the technical bench headed by Wedson Nyirenda will grab this opportunity with both hands and fly the country’s flag higher in East Africa.
“In the next few weeks, the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will kick off in Kenya/Tanzania/Uganda where the Chipolopolo will be part of the participating teams. Preparations are already underway in the background although we await the draws to align our program with the opposition we will face.
“As always, we will do our best to ensure that the team gets quality preparations before the tournament. We have every reason to believe that the all-local technical bench headed by Wedson Nyirenda will grab this opportunity with both hands and fly our flag higher in East Africa.
“We are mindful that we have five qualified teams for AFCON tournaments and will be taking a proactive stance to ensure that preparations are ahead of schedule. It is a good headache to send the under-17 boys, under-20 boys, CHAN team, Copper Queens and Chipolopolo for continental tournaments.
“For the Chipolopolo and Copper Queens assignments, we will be engaging government early as these are teams that are fully supported by the state. For the other teams that are supported by FAZ, we will be exploring ways of bringing possible corporate sponsors to ease the burden on ourselves.”
