The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is intensifying its oversight of preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), with President Patrice Motsepe set to lead a crucial inspection tour starting this Thursday.

This visit marks a significant step in the final stages of preparation for the tournament, which will take place from February 1 to 28, 2024.

This latest inspection follows a previous mission in November, when CAF assessed the readiness of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda for the upcoming tournament.

The inspection team evaluated key infrastructure including stadiums, training grounds, hotels, airports, and other essential facilities.

The primary goal of this thorough evaluation was not only to ensure that all preparations were on track but also to serve as a precursor to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will also be hosted in East Africa.

Motsepe’s visit, which is scheduled to last two days, will focus on critical areas that form the backbone of the tournament’s success, namely the stadiums and training sites.

The CAF president will begin his tour in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, before moving on to Nairobi, Kenya, and concluding in Kampala, Uganda, on the second day.

During these visits, the CAF president will oversee final checks to ensure that all venues meet the required standards for international competition.

The inspection is part of a series of steps to ensure the smooth running of the tournament, which is just under two months away.

With the second round of qualifiers scheduled for December 20-22 and December 27-29, CAF’s attention is firmly on ensuring that the teams and host cities are ready to deliver a successful championship.

A total of 15 teams will progress to the final stage, with defending champions Senegal set to face Liberia in their bid to retain the title.

Senegal, along with other teams, is under pressure to ensure their qualifications are secured, as CAF continues its rigorous oversight ahead of the final tournament.

CAF’s actions underline the high stakes involved in the 2024 CHAN and its importance as a key milestone in the lead-up to the larger continental tournaments.

As preparations intensify, the focus now shifts to ensuring all necessary facilities are in place, and that the infrastructure is up to the demanding standards required for a tournament of this magnitude.
