Pyramids FC opened their Egypt Cup group stage campaign with a 2-0 victory over Al Ittihad FC on Tuesday evening.
The win marks a solid start for the hosts, who capitalised on a dominant second-half performance to secure all three points in Group D.
The match, held at Pyramids’ home ground, began cautiously, with both sides struggling to find a breakthrough in the opening 45 minutes.
Despite several promising attacks, neither team managed to convert their chances, and the first half ended in a stalemate.
Pyramids FC returned for the second half with renewed determination.
The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Moroccan midfielder Walid El Karti found the net.
El Karti, who has been a key figure for Pyramids this season, latched onto a precise pass before calmly slotting the ball past Al Ittihad’s goalkeeper.
The visitors attempted to respond but failed to breach Pyramids’ well-organised defence, which held firm under pressure.
Al Ittihad struggled to create clear-cut chances, and as the match wore on, their hopes of a comeback began to fade.
Pyramids sealed the result in the 88th minute through substitute Mostafa Fathi Gabas.
Exploiting a lapse in Al Ittihad’s defence, Gabas fired a clinical strike into the back of the net, doubling his side’s lead and securing a convincing win for the hosts.
The victory places Pyramids FC in a strong position within Group D, where they share company with Ismaily SC and Haras El Hedood.
Following the match, Croatian head coach Krunoslav Jurcic expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance and composure.
It was a difficult first half, but the players showed great patience and focus in the second.
We took our chances when it mattered, and I’m happy with the result,” Jurcic said.
Pyramids FC’s strong start will serve as a boost as they aim to progress in the competition and contend for the title.
Meanwhile, Al Ittihad will need to regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture to keep their hopes alive in the group stage.
The Egypt Cup group stages are set to be fiercely contested, with teams vying for a place in the knockout rounds.
Pyramids FC’s win sends a strong message to their Group D rivals, as the Heirs of the Pharaohs look determined to make a deep run in the tournament.
