The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has come under fire for its silence following incidents of violence involving USM Alger fans and a player during their CAF Confederation Cup match against ASC Jaraaf in Dakar. Despite the gravity of the situation, the FAF has not issued a statement addressing the matter, leaving many questioning its stance on protecting Algerian clubs and supporters.
The federation’s official website highlighted recent positive results for Algerian clubs in continental competitions, including MC Alger’s 2-0 victory over Young Africans, CR Belouizdad’s 1-0 win in Abidjan, and CS Constantine’s 1-0 success against Simba.
However, there was no mention of the troubling events at the Abdoulaye-Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, where USM Alger faced ASC Jaraaf.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) swiftly responded to the incident, issuing a statement confirming its awareness of the events during the December 8 match.
“The matter has been forwarded to the competent authorities of CAF for in-depth examination and further investigations,” the statement read.
ASC Jaraaf’s coach, Malick Daf, also addressed the controversy, publicly apologizing to USM Alger and the Algerian people.
However, the lack of a response from the FAF or the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has sparked frustration among USM Alger supporters and management.
Many believe even a minimal statement would have reassured fans and demonstrated solidarity with the club in a difficult situation.
