Simba SC endured a 2-1 defeat to Algeria’s CS Constantine in their second CAF Confederation Cup group stage match on Sunday at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium. The loss marked a setback for the Tanzanian side, led by head coach Fadlu Davids, who had begun their campaign with a victory in their opening game.
Tanzanian defender Hussein Mohamed put Simba ahead in the 24th minute, capitalizing on an early chance to give his team a promising start.
However, the second half proved disastrous for the visitors. Just a minute after the restart, Abdulrazack Hamza, under pressure, inadvertently scored an own goal, leveling the match.
The Algerians seized the momentum, and in the 50th minute, Brahim Dib punished a defensive misstep to secure the winning goal for CS Constantine.
The result leaves Simba SC in third place in Group A, with three points from their opening two games.
Despite their earlier 2-0 victory over Bravos Do Maquis, the loss to Constantine underscores the challenges they face in progressing from the group.
CS Constantine, with two wins from two matches, solidified their position at the top of the standings. The Algerian side has been efficient at both ends of the pitch, scoring three goals and conceding just one.
Elsewhere in the group, Bravos Do Maquis pulled off an upset, defeating CS Sfaxien 3-2. The Tunisians now find themselves at the bottom of the table, with no points from their first two matches.
Simba SC will aim to bounce back when they host CS Sfaxien in their next match. Meanwhile, CS Constantine will look to maintain their perfect start as they travel to face Bravos Do Maquis.
