Egyptian superstar, Mohamed Salah continues to etch his name in football history after breaking Wayne Rooney’s long-standing Premier League record for the most games with both a goal and an assist.
Salah achieved this milestone on Wednesday night, recording his 37th such match as Liverpool drew 3-3 with Newcastle United.
The match was an intense back-and-forth affair at St. James’ Park. Newcastle opened the scoring in the 35th minute through Alexander Isak. Salah responded in the second half by assisting Curtis Jones for Liverpool’s equalizer.
The Magpies regained the lead in the 62nd minute when Anthony Gordon found the net. However, Salah showcased his brilliance just six minutes later, equalizing with a clinical finish. He then added another goal in the 83rd minute to put Liverpool ahead, notching his 30th Premier League brace. Despite Salah’s heroics, Fabian Schär’s stoppage-time goal ensured the teams shared the spoils.
Salah’s contribution on the night saw him break Rooney’s record of 36 matches with a goal and an assist in Premier League history.
He also joined an elite group, becoming only the eighth player to score 30 braces in the league.
The Egyptian forward’s remarkable form has seen him tally 13 goals and 8 assists this season, making him the league’s top scorer and second in assists behind Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka (10).
Salah’s combined 21 goal contributions are the most of any player across Europe’s top five leagues this season.
