In a moment of national pride, Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele has elevated the ranks of two of the country’s brightest football stars—Copper Queens captain Barbra Banda and Bay FC’s Rachel Kundananji.

Banda, a standout for Orlando Pride in the NWSL, was promoted to Warrant Officer Class Two, while Kundananji rose from Private to Corporal.

The promotions were conferred at the Army headquarters in Lusaka, where Lt. General Zyeele lauded the duo for their exemplary performances that continue to inspire young female athletes across the nation.

“Their achievements reflect a fighting spirit and endurance that embodies the heart of the buffalo among the pride of lions,” he remarked.

Banda’s rise is nothing short of historic, marked by her groundbreaking win as the first Zambian recipient of the prestigious BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year Award.

Her exceptional skills and leadership at both club and national levels have set new benchmarks for women’s football.

Similarly, Kundananji has shattered records, becoming the world’s most expensive woman player with a valuation of USD 860,000.

Her meteoric ascent reflects the global recognition of Zambian talent.

These promotions underscore the transformative power of sports, celebrating the duo not only as athletes but as trailblazers inspiring generations to come.
