Real Madrid fans accused of racially abusing Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal during the recent El Clásico could face severe penalties.
The punishments according to information gathered include a €5,000 fine and a one-year stadium ban.
The State Commission for Combating Violence, racism, xenophobia, and Intolerance in Sport has proposed these measures against two individuals identified as perpetrators of the abuse.
The incident occurred on October 26 at the Santiago Bernabéu during Barcelona’s 4-0 victory over Real Madrid.
The abuse targeted 17-year-old Yamal after Real Madrid conceded their third goal. Spectators were reported to have hurled racist slurs, including calling him a “bloody negro” and a “f***ing moor.”
In late November, Spanish authorities arrested three individuals allegedly involved in the incident, one of whom is a minor.
The arrests underline the growing determination to address racism in football and protect players from discriminatory behaviour.
This case is the latest in a string of racist incidents in Spanish football, sparking widespread condemnation and calls for stricter enforcement of anti-racism measures.
If the proposed penalties are upheld, they will serve as a clear warning against intolerance in sport.
