Adebayor extends best wishes to Togo star Kevin Denkey after MLS transfer
Togo football legend Emmanuel Adebayor has expressed his admiration and support for compatriot Kevin Denkey following the striker’s high-profile transfer to Major League Soccer (MLS) side FC Cincinnati.
Denkey, previously with Belgian club Cercle Bruges, has joined FC Cincinnati on a deal running until 2028, with an optional extension. The transfer fee, reportedly €14 million, makes the move the most expensive in MLS history—a landmark achievement for the 23-year-old Togolese international.
The forward has been a key figure for Togo’s national team, and this move to the United States marks a significant step in his career as he prepares to compete in one of the world’s most rapidly growing leagues.
Adebayor, a former captain of Togo and an iconic figure in African football, took to social media to share his pride and encouragement for the young star.
“I wish Kevin Denkey all the best in his new chapter with FC Cincinnati. Gonna shine, son. I am so proud of you, and I will always be your #1 fan,” Adebayor wrote.
He added, “Thank you for your kind words. The fact that I had an impact on your career means a lot to me. I’m waiting for my invitation to your first match. Proud of you!”
As Denkey settles into his new club, the record-breaking transfer underscores the growing appeal of MLS as a destination for global talent. His arrival is expected to bolster FC Cincinnati’s attacking options as they look to build on their successes in the league.
For Togo, Denkey’s move represents another proud moment, reinforcing the country’s reputation for producing exceptional football talent.
