CAF announces nominees for 2024 Women’s Player of the Year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the 10 nominees for the 2024 Women’s Player of the Year award, celebrating the finest talent in African women’s football.

Among the nominees are prominent figures like Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga, who plays for Olympique Lyonnais, and Zambia’s Barbra Banda, representing Orlando Pride.

Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie of Paris FC also features on the prestigious list.

Reigning champion Asisat Oshoala, who has dominated the award in previous years, will not defend her title this time, opening the door for a new recipient to take center stage.

South African stars Jermaine Seoposenwe and Thembi Kgatlana have continued to shine in North America and Mexico, respectively, while Burundi’s Sandrine Niyonkuru has made significant contributions to FC Masar.

Meanwhile, Moroccan midfielder Sanaa Mssoudy, a key figure at AS FAR, represents North Africa on this esteemed list.

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, a commanding presence in goal for Paris FC, is joined by her compatriot Rasheedat Ajibade, who has excelled at Atletico Madrid.
