Guinean winger François Kamano has heaped praise on teammate Sehrou Guirassy following Guinea’s 1-0 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, November 16, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpé. Speaking to Africafootunited, Kamano declared Guirassy the clear choice for the African Golden Ball.
“Golden Ball to Sehrou Guirassy, there is no debate about that,” Kamano said after Guirassy’s decisive goal propelled Guinea to second place in Group H of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 28-year-old striker’s performance not only secured the win but continued to underline his influence on the Syli National’s campaign.
Kamano, currently playing for Damac FC in Saudi Arabia, shared his thoughts on the hard-fought match.
“My impressions are good, my impressions are very good. We are happy now. It was a laborious match,” the former Bordeaux and Bastia player reflected.
In the mixed zone, Kamano took time to applaud his teammates while singling out Guirassy for his pivotal role.
“He really helped us a lot by scoring the winning goal. So congratulations to him,” Kamano said.
However, it was his emphatic support for Guirassy’s candidacy for the African Golden Ball that garnered attention. “Ballon d’Or to Sehrou Guirassy, there is no debate on that,” he reiterated.
“It’s Sehrou Guirassy, obviously. He fully deserves the Ballon d’Or.”
The buzz surrounding Guirassy’s talent is well-founded. The forward delivered a record-breaking 2023–2024 season with VfB Stuttgart, scoring an extraordinary 30 goals in 30 games.
Since his move to Borussia Dortmund, he has maintained his stellar form, netting 9 goals in 13 matches across all competitions.
In addition, his six goals during the ongoing AFCON qualifiers underscore his consistency and value to Guinea’s national team.
Kamano’s comments reflect growing recognition of Guirassy’s achievements and his potential to claim one of African football’s most prestigious honors.
As the Syli National continues their AFCON journey, Guirassy’s form will undoubtedly remain a critical factor in their success.
