Galatasaray defender Ismail Jakobs sidelined for weeks with injury

Galatasaray defender Ismail Jakobs is set to miss several weeks of action after suffering a soleus muscle injury during his team’s recent match against Samsunspor. The 25-year-old was substituted at halftime in what was intended to be his comeback following a prior knee issue.

Medical tests conducted on Monday confirmed the extent of the injury, ruling Jakobs out for an estimated 4 to 6 weeks.

This setback also means he will be unavailable for Senegal’s upcoming fixtures against Burkina Faso and Burundi in the AFCON qualifiers.

Galatasaray, the current leaders of the Turkish Super Lig, had reintroduced Jakobs to the starting lineup against Samsunspor after he had missed three matches due to knee trouble.

However, his return was cut short when he was forced to leave the pitch after just 45 minutes.

For Jakobs, who has earned 22 caps for Senegal, this represents another frustrating interruption in his season.

The versatile left-back, who joined Galatasaray from AS Monaco, has faced recurring fitness issues in recent weeks, complicating both his club and international duties.

Jakobs’ absence will be a blow to Galatasaray as they continue their push for domestic success and aim to maintain their position atop the league standings.

The player’s unavailability also leaves Senegal’s national team manager with limited options for the crucial AFCON qualifiers.

The injury marks a challenging period for Jakobs, who will now focus on rehabilitation to regain full fitness and return to the pitch as quickly as possible.
