Mokwena tests new defensive pairing ahead of crucial Hassania Agadir clash
Wydad AC’s head coach, Rhulani Mokwena, placed a significant emphasis on defensive preparations during Thursday’s training session at the Wellness Center in Bouskoura.
Mokwena appears intent on addressing the shortcomings exposed during the recent clash against Difaa El Jadida.
According to an informed source, the South African coach has been diligently working throughout the week to rectify defensive lapses seen in the previous match.
His efforts are aimed at preventing similar mistakes in the upcoming fixtures.
During Thursday’s training, Mokwena experimented with a new defensive pairing—Jamal Harkass and Mounaim Boutouil—in an attempt to foster synergy between the two players.
Mokwena also aims to give Boutouil, the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender, an opportunity to showcase his skills in the forthcoming match against Hassania Agadir, which will be played on Saturday at the Berrechid Municipal Stadium.
Mounaim Boutouil has yet to make an official appearance for Wydad since his arrival a few weeks ago. His absence from the lineup has been largely due to a lack of physical readiness.
Mokwena has previously instructed Boutouil to work on his fitness and reduce his weight in order to join the main squad.
As Wydad prepares for this crucial fixture, Mokwena’s focus on building defensive chemistry between Harkass and Boutouil could prove vital.
Hassania Agadir, known for their organized attacks, will likely pose a significant threat, making a solid backline a necessity for Wydad to secure a positive result.
Wydad’s defensive issues have been a talking point among fans and analysts alike, especially after the team’s performance against Difaa El Jadida, which revealed vulnerabilities in their backline.
By working on these aspects and bringing in a new pairing, Mokwena hopes to restore solidity and discipline to Wydad’s defense.
The upcoming match is pivotal for Wydad, as the team looks to bounce back and gain momentum in the league.
With Mokwena’s tactical adjustments, all eyes will be on the newly formed defensive partnership and whether they can deliver under pressure.
Fans are eagerly awaiting to see if the changes will translate into a more resilient Wydad performance against Hassania Agadir.
