Azam FC head coach Rachid Taoussi has voiced his dissatisfaction despite his team’s 1-0 win against Coastal Union, citing a lack of creativity and few scoring opportunities during the match. The Tanzanian Premier League clash, held at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, saw Azam secure their second consecutive victory, but Taoussi was less than impressed with the overall performance.
The only goal of the game came early, with Nassor Saadun finding the back of the net in the 9th minute.
This was Saadun’s second goal in as many matches, following his contribution in Azam’s dominant 4-0 win over KMC in their previous fixture.
While the Chamazi-based team has shown signs of returning to form, their head coach remains critical of their attacking output.
“I’m not happy because we didn’t create many chances and we struggled to win second balls as the game progressed,” Taoussi told Daily News
. His frustration was evident, particularly given that his side failed to capitalize on opportunities to extend their lead throughout the match.
Taoussi also pointed to fatigue as a contributing factor to the underwhelming performance.
Azam had just 48 hours to recover from their previous match, which, according to the coach, impacted the players’ sharpness on the pitch.
“I believe fatigue played a role, we only had 48 hours to recover after our previous match instead of the ideal 72 hours,” Taoussi explained. “
Some players looked tired after playing just two days earlier.”
Despite these concerns, Taoussi acknowledged the importance of securing the three points, even if the overall performance left much to be desired.
“Still, the most important thing is that we secured the three points,” he added.
The Moroccan coach has now overseen two wins and a draw in his first three matches at the helm of Azam FC, remaining unbeaten since taking charge of the team.
While results have been positive, Taoussi’s focus on improving the squad’s creativity and overall tactical approach suggests that there is still work to be done.
Azam FC’s recent victories have propelled them up the Premier League standings, but the team will need to address the issues highlighted by Taoussi if they hope to maintain their momentum throughout the season.
With a congested fixture schedule and limited recovery time between matches, the challenge for Taoussi will be balancing squad rotation while ensuring his team remains competitive on the pitch.
As Azam look ahead to their upcoming fixtures, it remains to be seen whether the tactical adjustments Taoussi is aiming for will result in a more polished and dominant display.
For now, however, the coach’s focus remains on building from these early successes while addressing the shortcomings that could hinder their progress in the league.
