Malian Football Federation summons captain Hamari Traoré
The Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) has officially summoned Hamari Traoré, the captain of the national team, to appear before its Executive Committee within 48 hours. This urgent call comes in response to Traoré’s recent social media activities that have sparked controversy within the football community.
The 32-year-old right-back, who currently plays for Real Sociedad, received the summons on Monday, June 24, through an official letter signed by FEMAFOOT’s Secretary General, Sidi Bekaye Magassa.
The letter explicitly mentions the federation’s concerns about Traoré’s online posts regarding the internal affairs of the Mali national team, despite prior warnings.
“It has come to our attention that you are making publications on social networks about the internal life of the Mali national team, despite our previous warning.
Therefore, we invite you to appear before the Executive Committee within 48 hours,” the letter stated, concluding with formal expressions of good wishes and sporting regards.
The catalyst for this disciplinary action was a collective message posted on social media by senior members of the Eagles, with Traoré as the primary spokesperson.
On June 21, Traoré, along with key players such as El Bilal Touré, Kamory Doumbia, and Falaye Sacko, publicly criticized the leadership of Malian football.
They expressed their dissatisfaction with what they termed as “mismanagement” and the lack of professionalism within FEMAFOOT.
The statement, which threatened a boycott of the national team’s upcoming fixtures, read: “If the situation remains unchanged, we reserve the right not to honor the selection and not to participate in the next qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.”
This declaration, shared widely by the players on their social media accounts, highlighted growing tensions between the players and the federation’s leadership.
The decision to summon Traoré reflects the federation’s serious stance on maintaining discipline and addressing grievances through proper channels.
However, it also underscores the escalating unrest among the players, who feel compelled to take drastic measures to voice their concerns.
This incident has garnered significant attention within the Malian football community and beyond.
Supporters are divided, with some backing the players’ demand for better management and professionalism, while others criticize the method of publicly airing grievances that could potentially disrupt the national team’s cohesion and performance.
The upcoming meeting between Traoré and the Executive Committee will be crucial in determining the future relationship between the players and FEMAFOOT.
It remains to be seen whether this confrontation will lead to meaningful changes within the federation or further deepen the rift.
For Traoré, this situation is a delicate balance between leadership responsibilities and his commitment to the team’s well-being.
His actions and the outcome of the meeting will likely set a precedent for how such conflicts are handled in the future.
As Mali prepares for its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, resolving these internal disputes swiftly and effectively will be essential.
The federation and the players must find common ground to ensure that the focus remains on achieving their shared goals on the international stage.
